A word from the manager
After a tough April, May was make-or-break for The Knaves. With five games, including games against the top two, we knew that we’d need to take a maximum 15 points to stay in touch with the promotion places.
As you’ll read in the match reports below, from a dramatic last-kick-of-the-game winner against a tough and determined Amigos Warszawa, we fell just short of the quality needed to beat the top two, losing both games by the odd goal. The 3-2 defeat against Komorow was a particularly tough one to take.
With the results in May meaning our promotion dreams were over for another season, we finished the month strongly and got back to scoring goals again. With a ‘walkover’ due to be awarded for the game against Skra Warszawa, due to them being unable to book a pitch for the game (an automatic 3-0 win for AFC), we are guaranteed to match last season’s fourth placed finish. If results go our way, we can still improve our league position for the fourth year running by finishing above Agape in third.
Regardless, another fourth placed finish and a much healthier goal difference is still progress, even if we’ll finish the season with a feeling of disappointment.
All of that means our thoughts and planning has turned to next season. We have a few new faces joining us for trials in June, and we have some BIG NEWS to share with you all which will help the club grow again, both on and off the pitch. However, as we cross some t’s and dot some i’s on all of that, you’ll have to wait until next month for full details. However we’re very excited about next season and the potential within the club to continue to grow and improve.

The month of May kicked off in dramatic fashion under the lights at Hutnik.
AFC have been on the end of a few last minute heartbreaks over the years, so to be on the right end of one was fully deserved….maybe!
Amigos showed they are a really solid, physical, well-organised team, and they were difficult to break down. The Knaves had the most of the possession, and aside from one or two counter attacks and efforts from distance for our guests, we looked the most likely to go and win it. We left it late though!
A goal from Alessandro Puerini in the second minute of injury time secured the three points. After great work and energy in midfield from the likes of Noah Delophont and Clement Suavard to keep winning the ball back and launch yet another late attack, the forwards responded with some clever build-up play, and although Marco Cara’s initial shot was saved, Puerini knocked home the loose ball just before the referee blew the whistle to end the game. A real team effort was required to take the three points, with a clean sheet and strong performance at the back, tireless effort in midfield, and the quality when it mattered from the lads up front.
A special word for the Amigos players who, despite being disappointed that all of their hard work was undone with the last kick, showed great sportsmanship and a good attitude after the match. Two teams playing hard but fair, a competitive game, and a good atmosphere after the match - everything lower-league football should be.

The Knaves went into their clash with FC Komorów knowing that realistically only a victory would be enough to keep their hope of promotion alive. However, despite taking the lead twice AFC left without any points another hugely frustrating and disappointing afternoon.
Neil Riley had many players missing for such an important match and with Michąl Mucha still injured Roberts Knales stepped into the right-back position. Youssef Khlaed was another change in the back four as Marco Cara stepped into the midfield on the left hand side. With Partick Tanner, Clement Sauvard and Alberto Pini also absent there was also a start for Simon Real after he missed last week’s match.
After a disallowed goal for handball for the hosts, AFC took the lead when Alessando Puerini made another great run into the righthand channel before cutting back inside his defender to score with a fierce shot which was too strong for the goalkeeper. As half time approached although Komorów were having the majority of the possession there was no real danger to Tarn Willer’s goal. However, on 44 minutes a corner wasn’t cleared and eventually the referee harshly adjudged Cara to have handled inside the penalty area. To the dismay and shock of the AFC players a penalty was awarded and scored. There was still time in the half for Emre Colakoglu to be bundled over in the area but this time the referee decided against the awarding of a penalty kick.
With the sun relentlessly shining down and making the pitch temperature reach 30 degrees the second half was a cautious affair. After good work from Colakoglu, Real found a pocket of space on the edge of the area to fire The Knaves back into the lead on 65 minutes. With the heat really starting to take its toll, Vade Sodal along with Filippo De Felice were introduced to try to add some energy. However it was Komorów who found an equaliser with a shot from outside the area. A long distance freekick then caught out Willers and the hosts took the lead for the first time. The game then became stretched as AFC hunted a third goal and De Felice almost managed to score when he found himself unmarked at the back post but could only direct his shot wide.

After last week’s defeat and the promotion now looking unlikely there was no time for The Knaves to feel sorry for themselves as undefeated table-toppers Ursus were the next opponents.
Again, manager Riley had to shuffle the starting line-up with captain Coretin Razes suspended and Hugo Molina unavailable. Robert Knales joined Rainer Pold in the centre of the defence with Sacha Beubry-Niejinsky fitting into the right-back slot. Clement Sauvard took the captaincy and Noah Delophont dropped to the bench. Alberto Pini also came back into the starting XI with Jan Błoński making his debut in the squad.
As we’ve previously mentioned in our newsletters and last month’s ‘Meet The Opponents’ RKS Ursus are a massive club within Warsaw with many academies, youth teams and sponsors. Recently they have concentrated on their 3rd team in the hope of developing players to go on and play in their higher ranked teams. Although their team is relatively young they have all been coached well from a young age with only their better players teaching senior football.
The game began with RKS having the majority of the ball and using their three central defenders to move the ball from side to side. However, with little penetration into the AFC backline the game was largely played between each penalty area. For all their possession it was a counter-attack which saw RKS score the only goal of the game. A quick ball forward saw one of the two strikers racing through to lift the ball over Tarn Willers. Chances came and went for both teams as the first half went on. Alessadnro Puerini and Bartek Danilczuk getting in each other's way saw AFC’s best chance go begging.
Although no further goals in the second half the pace and intensity of the match didn’t let up. Błoński’s introduction for his debut almost created an equaliser as he crossed for Puerini only for a defender to deflect the ball wide for a corner. At the other end a smart save from Willers and clearance from Knales thwarted RKS.
The afternoon ended with another close defeat for The Knaves and continued the frustrating run of matches since the restart after winter. With five matches left of the season it’s important that AFC get back to winning ways to finish the season strongly.

The Knaves travelled back to the pitch in Komoroów for the second time in three games to face AMT Nowa Wies’ second team. It was hot under the midday sun, and the Knaves were made to sweat for the win.
It’s fair to say this was not our best performance of the season. Although we created numerous chances right from the start, we simply could not put the ball in the back of the net. If we’d have scored early, this could have been one of the biggest results of the season, but as frustration grew, our performance dropped.
Against a team we should have beaten comfortably on the day, we had to wait until the second half to find the breakthrough through Marco Cara on 55’. His inswinging corner may have been touched by Clement Sauvard on the ay through? Or maybe the goalkeeper turned the ball into his own net!? Either way, Marco has been credited with the goal, and for his contribution to set-pieces over the season, he deserved to get on the score sheet. Cara then came up with a great assist for Sacha Beubry-Niejinsky to make it two on 63’. Cara picked up the ball in the opposition half on the left. After some nice footwork to beat one or two players, he slid a perfect through ball to pick out Sacha’s run into the box. Sacha controlled the ball, steadied himself, sat the GK down, and rolled the ball into the net in a moment of quality for AFC.
A couple of second half downpours might have cooled the temperature on the pitch, but it also seemed a fitting metaphor for the game! This was a bit of a ‘damp squib’.
We dropped points against this team in the autumn round of fixtures with a 2-2 draw, so it was a relief to take the three points this time, and it is exactly these types of games we need to be winning to ensure we stay with the top two next season. Three points, another clean sheet, but not a game that will be remembered fondly in the AFC Board Room!

The fifth and last game in May saw The Knaves looking to build on their victory last week and to end the season with a good run of results.
With Tarn Willers not available Roberts Knales filled the goalkeeper position with Youseff Khaled the only change in the defence from last week. Further up the pitch there was a slight change in formation with Jan Błoński and Bartek Danilczuk playing the furthest forward with a four man midfield behind. Simon Real came back into the starting eleven.
From the start AFC dominated the match against a young Unia side and Marco Cara fired them ahead from the penalty spot after a handball. Alessandro Puerini then jinked his way into the box before cooly finishing for his first of four goals. An injury to Real saw Marcin Mączka replace him in an early change before Peurini got his second of the afternoon to give AFC a three goal advantage at the break.
Goals kept coming in the second half and Clement Sauvard saw a powerful header squeeze under the keeper before Peurini got his hat-trick. A clean strike from substitute Emre Colakoglu made it six before Unia managed to capitalise on some sloppy play to score a consolation goal. However, Peurini got his last goal of the game soon after and two well taken goals from two other substitutes, Hugo Molian and Vade Sodal, saw The Knaves record an emphatic victory. With two games to go hopefully six points more will be able to ensure AFC finish in 3rd place.
The second half saw Seb Pott make his first appearance of the spring round of matches after a nasty injury in training during winter saw him on crutches. Hopefully he can now stay fit before the start of next season.

Their stories offer a unique insight into the passion, pressure, and emotion that make football the world’s greatest sport.

After last week’s defeat and the promotion now looking unlikely there was no time for The Knaves to feel sorry for themselves as undefeated table-toppers Ursus were the next opponents.
Again, manager Riley had to shuffle the starting line-up with captain Coretin Razes suspended and Hugo Molina unavailable. Robert Knales joined Rainer Pold in the centre of the defence with Sacha Beubry-Niejinsky fitting into the right-back slot. Clement Sauvard took the captaincy and Noah Delophont dropped to the bench. Alberto Pini also came back into the starting XI with Jan Błoński making his debut in the squad.
As we’ve previously mentioned in our newsletters and last month’s ‘Meet The Opponents’ RKS Ursus are a massive club within Warsaw with many academies, youth teams and sponsors. Recently they have concentrated on their 3rd team in the hope of developing players to go on and play in their higher ranked teams. Although their team is relatively young they have all been coached well from a young age with only their better players teaching senior football.
The game began with RKS having the majority of the ball and using their three central defenders to move the ball from side to side. However, with little penetration into the AFC backline the game was largely played between each penalty area. For all their possession it was a counter-attack which saw RKS score the only goal of the game. A quick ball forward saw one of the two strikers racing through to lift the ball over Tarn Willers. Chances came and went for both teams as the first half went on. Alessadnro Puerini and Bartek Danilczuk getting in each other's way saw AFC’s best chance go begging.
Although no further goals in the second half the pace and intensity of the match didn’t let up. Błoński’s introduction for his debut almost created an equaliser as he crossed for Puerini only for a defender to deflect the ball wide for a corner. At the other end a smart save from Willers and clearance from Knales thwarted RKS.
The afternoon ended with another close defeat for The Knaves and continued the frustrating run of matches since the restart after winter. With five matches left of the season it’s important that AFC get back to winning ways to finish the season strongly.

The Knaves travelled back to the pitch in Komoroów for the second time in three games to face AMT Nowa Wies’ second team. It was hot under the midday sun, and the Knaves were made to sweat for the win.
It’s fair to say this was not our best performance of the season. Although we created numerous chances right from the start, we simply could not put the ball in the back of the net. If we’d have scored early, this could have been one of the biggest results of the season, but as frustration grew, our performance dropped.
Against a team we should have beaten comfortably on the day, we had to wait until the second half to find the breakthrough through Marco Cara on 55’. His inswinging corner may have been touched by Clement Sauvard on the ay through? Or maybe the goalkeeper turned the ball into his own net!? Either way, Marco has been credited with the goal, and for his contribution to set-pieces over the season, he deserved to get on the score sheet. Cara then came up with a great assist for Sacha Beubry-Niejinsky to make it two on 63’. Cara picked up the ball in the opposition half on the left. After some nice footwork to beat one or two players, he slid a perfect through ball to pick out Sacha’s run into the box. Sacha controlled the ball, steadied himself, sat the GK down, and rolled the ball into the net in a moment of quality for AFC.
A couple of second half downpours might have cooled the temperature on the pitch, but it also seemed a fitting metaphor for the game! This was a bit of a ‘damp squib’.
We dropped points against this team in the autumn round of fixtures with a 2-2 draw, so it was a relief to take the three points this time, and it is exactly these types of games we need to be winning to ensure we stay with the top two next season. Three points, another clean sheet, but not a game that will be remembered fondly in the AFC Board Room!

The fifth and last game in May saw The Knaves looking to build on their victory last week and to end the season with a good run of results.
With Tarn Willers not available Roberts Knales filled the goalkeeper position with Youseff Khaled the only change in the defence from last week. Further up the pitch there was a slight change in formation with Jan Błoński and Bartek Danilczuk playing the furthest forward with a four man midfield behind. Simon Real came back into the starting eleven.
From the start AFC dominated the match against a young Unia side and Marco Cara fired them ahead from the penalty spot after a handball. Alessandro Puerini then jinked his way into the box before cooly finishing for his first of four goals. An injury to Real saw Marcin Mączka replace him in an early change before Peurini got his second of the afternoon to give AFC a three goal advantage at the break.
Goals kept coming in the second half and Clement Sauvard saw a powerful header squeeze under the keeper before Peurini got his hat-trick. A clean strike from substitute Emre Colakoglu made it six before Unia managed to capitalise on some sloppy play to score a consolation goal. However, Peurini got his last goal of the game soon after and two well taken goals from two other substitutes, Hugo Molian and Vade Sodal, saw The Knaves record an emphatic victory. With two games to go hopefully six points more will be able to ensure AFC finish in 3rd place.
The second half saw Seb Pott make his first appearance of the spring round of matches after a nasty injury in training during winter saw him on crutches. Hopefully he can now stay fit before the start of next season.

Greatest game I have watched: 2005 Champions League Final. Liverpool-AC Milan. Watched it on TV. This game was special, because it shows that everything is possible in football. Liverpool's comeback was historical.
Greatest game I have played in: Estonian Cup final for amateur teams. This game was at our National stadium. The grass was absolutely perfect and 1500 people attended the match.

Greatest game I have watched: : The most memorable professional match for me has to be 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-final Germany vs Brazil. Watching Germany completely dominate Brazil in the first half and win 7–1 at Brazil’s home World Cup was unbelievable. The atmosphere in Germany during that match was incredible, especially knowing they went on to win the tournament as well. It’s one of those games that people will remember forever because of how unexpected and one-sided it was. Other honorable mentions would be Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern Munich 5–4 and Real Madrid vs Schalke 04 3–4.

We won 10–0, and I scored 5 goals in one half, including a couple of long-range bangers. It was one of those matches where everything just worked perfectly, both individually and as a team, and keeping a clean sheet made it even better. Another unforgettable game was at AFC against Cracow during winter, which ended 4–4. I scored a hat-trick there, including two goals from outside the box where I noticed the goalkeeper was off his line and managed to lob him twice.

Last in our series of focusing on teams AFC Warszawa have played over the 2025/26 season is RKS Okęcie II, the team we are due to meet on the last day of the season.

Founded: 1929
Like other clubs we have featured, RKS Okęcie grew out of a sports club which was originated by employees of a factory. This time it was the Warsaw Skoda plant which formed the SKODA Cultural and Sports Club which in turn changed to the Okęcie Cultural and Sports Club in 1936 when the Polish Skoda Works were reformed into the Aviation Engine Factory in the Okęcie district.
Upon formation the most successful section of the club was it’s boxing with cycling, motorcycling, water sports, shooting and basketball also being active alongside it’s football team. 1938 saw the football team narrowly miss out on promotion to the top national league.
With the outbreak of World War II and with Poland being under occupation, sporting development was hampered. However, Okęcie were one of the more active teams during this period and games were attended by several thousand people despite them being the subject of raids and roundups. A patriotic atmosphere was evident at such matches which helped the spectators believe in survival and a positive outcome of these troubled times.
Partly due to the original pitch being destroyed during the war in 1963 the club moved to its current home. Today only the football and tennis sections of the sports club are still active.
