AFC Warszawa - December
A word from the manager
November saw The Knaves play the final two matches of the autumn round before a long winter break.
First up was a really solid 4-0 home win against Przyszłość II Włochy, before finishing the round with a frustrating draw away at Okecie II Warszawa. We were the better team against Okecie, but could not find the winning goal. However, having lost just once in 13 league games, this is still our best season to date in the league and we can go into the break happy with our progress.
The long winter break always feels a little excessive, stretching from the weekend of 15th/16th November, through to late March. This is possibly a legacy from a time when all teams played on grass pitches, there were fewer pitches available to play on, and the harsh Polish winters made lower league football impossible. With most teams now playing on artificial pitches though, it feels like this is something which could change, with games being played until the end of November, and starting again at the beginning of March. By the time we finish the season in June, we’ll likely be playing games in 30 degree heat. The summer break is also very short as a result of this scheduling, meaning clubs struggle to get any kind of pre-season in, with a lot of players and staff still on holiday when the season starts in August.
It’s the same for everyone though, and we always try to make the most of the break in matches.
We will continue training, and the extended time off allows us to train twice a week, adding a Sunday evening session to our regular Wednesday evenings. This allows us to work on new ideas, allow trialists to join us for a few weeks, and to keep the team as fit as possible in order to hit the ground running for the second half of the season.
We had our first Sunday training session at the end of November, with trialists joining us from Germany, Norway.The international nature of our club means our squad is quite transient, with only a core group of players having been with us for the full three and a half years. As much as it can be difficult to manage the turnover in the squad at times, it also means we have new players joining on a regular basis to keep the squad fresh. We will keep you informed about any new signings of course, and we’ll hopefully line up some friendlies in the new year so you’ll be able to see AFC in action before March!
This will be the final Manager’s Notes of 2025. Once again, thanks for all your support, it has helped the club to keep growing, and we’ll do our best to keep improving the content over the coming months.

Our game against Przyszłość II Włochy on Saturday, 8th November was both a very late kick-off (21:30), and our last home game before the winter break.
Przyszłość II Włochy are another second team with some talented young players making their way in senior football, and we knew this would be another tough game.
They pressed us high from the start with good pace and energy, but after playing our way into the game, we produced a commanding, mature, performance. Another clean sheet was complimented by two goals in each half. We were made to wait though, and it took until the 38th minute before Clement Sauvard opened the scoring with a good back-post header from a deep corner, with Patrick Tanner adding the second a minute before the break, doing what he does best and arriving in the box with great timing to tap home a rebound off the Włochy GK.
The second half was very similar, with the away team showing good fitness levels in their defensive work, and seeing quite a bit of the ball. Again though, AFC stuck to the plan, kept playing our game, and got a third goal on 76’ when Razes turned in a loose ball following a corner, before a bit of magic from Gunnar Sodal to beat his man and set up Danilczuk for the fourth goal guaranteed the three points.
We are rightly proud of our defensive displays this season, and the back five or Kretschmer, Cara, Razes, Molina, and Knales were again solid throughout, and they provided the platform for a really solid home win.
Our home record for the first half of the season is: P7 W6 D1 L0 GF 34 GA3 Pts. 19 - not a bad return!

Although everyone likes to visit one of the older grounds with their unique atmosphere the natural grass pitches can be challenging and so it proved again. Although AFC took an early lead with Patrick Tanner finishing off some fine attacking play down the left they were pegged back within ten minutes. Wessel Striwig was harshly adjudged to have committed a foul and David Głowacki got back to his feet to calmly score from the penalty spot.
AFC then enjoyed the majority of the possession but couldn’t break down a disciplined Okęcie defence on the testing playing surface. Tanner had another goal disallowed for a foul and was later inches away from tapping in at the back post. While at the other end Igor Wolański made a smart save late in the game to deny Głowacki a second goal and then watched a spectacular overhead kick from the same player drop just over the crossbar.
While at the final whistle there was a slight air of disappointment that three points weren’t taken from the game the first half of the season overall can be seen as a positive one. We now have a good basis for an exciting round of matches in spring.

League Table and statistics
AFC head into the winter break sitting second in the league after taking four points from their last two matches, winning one and drawing the other. The table remains incredibly tight, with four teams separated by just four points in the race for second place. AFC hold the position thanks to their superior goal difference, which currently gives them the edge in a fiercely competitive pack.

Those of you who have just started to follow the ups and downs of AFC Warszawa will no doubt have come across the name ‘Hutnik’ when reading our match reviews. This is the local term for where we play our home matches as the pitch is on the same complex as where division 4 side Hutnik Warszawa play their ‘home’ matches.
The Hutnik Sports Club which founded the football team was established in 1957 at the Warsaw Steelworks. Their highest ever finish to a league season was 6th in division 2 (1992/93) and they reached the last eight of the Polish Cup in 1991/92. Huntik Warszawa, like AFC Warszawa, have the Warsaw mermaid on their club badge.
The current venue was originally opened in 1985 and was built on the site of a Recreation and Sports Centre which had been built by volunteers and workers of the Warsaw Steelworks in 1978. Previously to this Huntnik Warszawa had played at a few different locations including the former Bielany airport and the Marymont Stadium
Major renovation was completed in 2021 allowing many different teams to use the facilities. Hutnik Warszawa’s first team play at a two-stand all-seater stadium which can hold 1.328 spectators and has a grass pitch while our matches take place on one of two synthetic side pitches. The stadium is available to hire - maybe one day we’ll be in a position to take them up on the offer!?

Home colours: White and Green
Founded in 1928, the Przyszłość Włochy sports club has in the past produced teams in men’s and women’s volleyball, table tennis and basketball as well as handball, track and field and orienteering teams. Currently only the football teams are still competing competitively.
Since their formation they have experienced a few name changes, partly due to the authorities in 1950 subordinating sports clubs, and some highs and lows on and off the pitch. After bouncing around through the various league formats over the years from 2020/21 Przyszłość Włochy’s teams have settled in Klasa A and B.
With a ‘first’ team playing in Klasa A and their ‘second’ team playing in Klasa B it is the latter which The Kanves have faced. Like many clubs with this set-up we have usually faced a young side who have been coached very well with players who have progressed through the various age levels.
The club's coat of arms was first introduced in 1929. It consists of a white and green shield with a red border and the letter "P" in the upper right corner. They are also another club who have their own natural grass pitch which makes a pleasant visit in late spring or summer.
