Hello, and welcome to the October's newsletter, rounding up the month of September
September started with a blank weekend for The Knaves. Our scheduled opponents for that round, UKS Kamionek, requested we play the game on a different day due to a number of injuries and illnesses in their squad. Since day one we have always tried to respect the spirit of lower-league football, helping out like-minded clubs where possible, and so we agreed to play them on a Tuesday night instead, meaning a weekend off for everyone involved - you can read more on the mid-week Kamionek game below, along with a re-cap and highlights from all four of our games played in September.
Taking 10 points from a possible 12 is a great reward for the boys' early season efforts on the training pitch, and the club has enjoyed by far it’s best start to a season. Six wins from seven in total, and with just three goals conceded is not bad! Were it not for a superb last-minute block by the young defender from Agape II Bialoleka, we might well have won that game too!
The new signings are settling in well, and have brought increased competition for places in the starting eleven. In total, the club has now used sixty nine players in almost three-and-a-half seasons! With Alex Aubock and Wessel Struiwig yet to make their debuts for one reason or another, we may well hit 71 players before the winter break. This is a huge turnover of players on the one hand, but the recent results are also a testament to all of the players who have played for AFC in our short history, without whom there would not be a club. In recognition of all of those who have represented the club, we’ll be launching an extension to the current membership offering - ‘Once a Knave, Always a Knave’ - to try and build and maintain our community outreach still further. More on this in the coming months, but for now, as always, onwards and upwards!
Match Reports
14/09/2025 Hutnik - pitch B KSP Victoria Warszawa Full Time: 3-0 Scorers: Razes, Tanner, Delophont
After a week’s break due to a fixture change The Knaves’ started off their busy September schedule with a hard fought win over KSP Victoria. It was always going to be a tough test against a team which last season were playing in a division higher.
Although AFC enjoyed much of the possession in the first half chances were hard to come by and at half time the match was still goalless. However, not long after half time a fine header from a corner by Corentin Razes calmed some nerves. This was followed by a further goal from Patrick Tanner and a first for the club by Noah Delophont.
There was even time for top-scorer Alessandro Puerini to miss a penalty after Filippo De Felice was brought down in the area after tying a defender in knots!
Overall it was a very pleasing display against our strongest opponents so far this season.
20/09/2025 AWF - Marymoncka AP Agape II Białołęka Full Time: 1-1 Scorers: Peurini
Our next match saw a meeting of 2nd & 3rd in the table on a hot day more accustomed to mid-summer than mid-September. Like our match against SEMP II we knew it would be against a young and very well coached side. Despite conceding first from a stunning 25 yard free kick The Knaves started to dictate first half play after that. Blocked tackles and some last ditch defending prevented an equalising goal and at half time AFC trailed.
The second half started similarly to the first half with AFC seeing plenty of the ball but unable to make the breakthrough. That all changed on 75 minutes when Agape were caught trying to play the ball out and Seb Pott fed Alessandro Puerini for a well taken goal. The game then opened up as the heat took it’s toll and Agape decided to search for a winner. Half-chances for both sides came and went and the first points of the season were dropped. The game saw a debut appearance for Emre Ozan Colakoglu who lasted 70 minutes before being replaced by Pott.
Our second away game in a row was played under the lights in a rare mid-week fixture for The Knaves. We were up against UKS Kamionek, who themselves had come very close to winning promotion from Klasa B last season, and who proved to be tough opposition on a small pitch - commonly referred to in Warsaw as ‘Wembley’. Without much space to play flowing football, both sides enjoyed spells on top with some direct and physical passages of play. Despite some decent openings for us, we went in at half-time 0-0. After a double substitution to get some fresh legs on the wings, AFC slowly started to dominate the game, and deservedly took the lead on 51’ from the penalty spot - Alessandro Puerini converting from 12 yards. Eleven minutes later though, the home team drew level. An awkward cross-come-shot from the left wing came back off the AFC crossbar, falling nicely for the Kamionek forward to nod home. The scores were only level for a minute though, Clement Sauvard getting his first of two goals to restore AFC’s advantage. Sauvard’s second goal is a Goal of The Month contender. The French forward showed a great bit of vision and improvisation to chip the Kamionek GK from 30 yards. From then on it was all AFC, and The Knaves were clinical in finishing off the game with two more goals to make it 5-1. Another three points in the bag!

28/09/2025 Hutnik - pitch b Amigos Warszawa Full Time: 4-1 Scorers: Cara, Razes, Beubry-Niejinsky, Gelo
After two consecutive away games it was back to Hutnik for the final match of September and with the temperatures starting to cool there was no letup on the pitch as AFC produced another strong performance.
With Amigo’s league position not truly reflecting their ability the visitors started strongly and a fine intervention from Igor Wolański helped deny them a scoring opportunity with the game still goalless. Not long after a rising, vicious shot from Marco Cara following a corner kick gave The Knaves the lead and captain Corentin Razes added a second goal just before the break with a header from another corner kick.
AFC enjoyed the majority of the possession at the beginning of the second half and went further ahead when Sacha Beubry-Niejinsky latched onto a fine throughball from Clement Sauvard. However, a nervy last ten minutes was ensured after Amigos pulled a goal back through a fine 25yard freekick. With chances then coming in both goalmouths Marcin Gelo made sure of another 3 points for the hosts with a low, crisp finish with almost the last kick of the game.

League Table and statistics
September was a strong month for the Knaves. We played four games, winning three and drawing the other, collecting 10 points in total. That impressive run saw us finish the month in 2nd place. With 13 goals scored and only 3 conceded, it’s been a great all-round team effort. Let’s hope we can carry this fantastic form into October.
Here’s a look at AFC’s all-time appearance leaders and top goal scorers, celebrating the players who have left their mark on the club’s history.
The story behind the aFC colours
The AFC Warszawa club colours are taken from the english clubs of Hull City and Burnley - the preferred clubs of the founder members. With Hull’s official colours being amber & black and Burnley’s claret & blue all four colours are evident in AFC’s home and away kits.
The AFC crest was designed by ex-Warsaw resident and previous FC Foreigntina regular Mike Mansfield.
The symbol of Warsaw - the mermaid or ‘syrenka’ - is used as the focus of the badge. Also included are the roses of Yorkshire and Lancashire, the two counties in England where you can find Hull and Burnley!
new signings - Part Two
The Knaves were able to bring in some new faces over the summer months. Here's some information on some of those players with more to come next month.
Alessandro Paderi Position - Attacker D.O.B. 14th May 1998 Last club: Accademia Calcio Sanluri - Sardinia Born: Cagliari, Sardinia Favourite team: AC Milan (and a Cagliari ‘sympathiser’!)
Originally coming to Poland for work in Krakow 2.5 years ago he moved to Warsaw about 1.5 years ago.
After playing regularly in our weekly Saturday Kickabout events it’s time to try his jinking runs on the 11 aside pitch. It will be a step up in commitment and standard but Alessandro is “super excited to take on a new challenge and give it all for AFC Warsaw”
Emre Ozan Colakoglu Position - Midfield D.O.B. - 17/02/1992 Last club: Krakow Dragoons FC Born: Yalova, Turkey Favourite team: Galatasaray
Emre becomes AFC Warszawa’s first registered player from Turkey and like Alessandro Puerini has enjoyed success with Krakow Dragoons FC in recent years. Moving to Poland back in 2016 to pursue his master’s degree he’s lived in both Wrocław and Krakow and although he sees himself as a “newcomer to the city” of Warsaw we’re sure he’ll settle in just nicely.

We sat down this month with Simon Real, a long time player for AFC who has been a solid rock in the middle of the park for us.
meet the opponents - SKRA 1921
Next up in getting to know this season’s opponents are SKRA 1921.
Home matches: Zabki Home colours: Yellow and red stripes
During AFC’s first season - 2022/23 - the two clubs first met with SKRA taking three points in both games on their way to winning the league by 8 points and only losing once. However, after gaining promotion to Klasa A the club were forced to withdraw from the league after 17 matches due to internal club difficulties. Now in their first season back they will be hoping for another promotional campaign soon.
Translated as ‘Workers' and Academic Sports Club’, SKRAwas the initiative ofJerzy Michałowicz who believed in better sporting opportunities for the working class. Jerzy was also an activist of the socialist Polish Socialist Party and went on to play football for the club. As well as football the other initial sections of the club in 1921 were boxing and fencing.
From November 1940 to December 1941, the stadium was located within the boundaries of the Warsaw Ghetto . It became the site of individual and mass graves, as well as executions, as commemorated by the Monument to the Common Martyrdom of Jews and Poles on Gibalskiego Street.
After the war, SKRA moved to the area at the intersection of Żwirki i Wigury and Wawelska Street, where the Warszawianka stadium was located before the war and during the occupation air artillery was stationed.
